Shaowei's paper, titled as "Modeling the Perceptual Impact of Viewport Adaptation for Immersive Video", is accepted by IEEE ISCAS 2018 at its lecture session.

Abstract:

Immersive video offers the freedom to navigate inside the virtualized environment. Instead of streaming the entire content, a viewport or field of view (FoV) adaptive streaming utilized. We often stream the high-quality content within viewport, but lower-quality representation elsewhere, so to reduce the network bandwidth consumption. Then we could the quality when focusing to a new FoV. Therefore, in work, we have attempted to model the perceptual impact the quality variations (through adapting the quantization and resolution) with respect to the refinement duration, and at a product of two closed-form exponential functions that explain the joint quantization and resolution induced quality. Analytical model is also cross-validated using another set data with both Pearson and Spearman’s rank rank correlations 0.98.
